Broadband internet is a generic term used for various types of connections using bredbånd technology. Broadband means the wide frequency range used to send and receive data. Previously, the process of dial-up internet access was very slow, the speed of the dial-up connection was too slow because the telephone line remained busy when accessing the internet. These factors make this broadband connection method preferred for internet access.
The term broadband refers to internet bandwidth connections. The term bandwidth is generally used to refer to data transfer rates, in the case of computer networks and internet connections data transfers are usually measured in bits per second (bps). In a broadband connection, the transfer speed is very high compared to an internet dial-up connection. There are various types of broadband connections, depending on speed, cost, and availability. Several types of broadband connections:
– ADSL and SSL Broadband Connection
ADSL is a commonly used connection. It is widely used for medical and commercial purposes. ADSL is a digital channel that can be used to access the internet without disturbing the telephone line. ADSL works at speeds of 512 kbps and above. ADSL enables high-speed internet connection without disturbing the busy telephone lines. In the case of ADSL connections, download speeds are greater than upload speeds, so this is termed ‘asymmetrical’ because of differences in download and upload speeds.
– SDSL (Symmetric Digital Subscriber Line)
SDSL is similar to ADSL, only differing in one aspect, namely, upload speed. SDSL broadband connection is characterized by identical upload and download speeds. This is useful for commercial and business purposes if it requires high upload speeds, and SDSL connections meet the requirements for that. SDSL costs are more expensive than ADSL, but this is not a burden if considering business-side benefits.
– Wireless Broadband Connection
Wireless internet connection is a necessity throughout the day. Today, laptops, palmtops, and cellphones, all have wireless internet connections. The download speed provided by this type of access technology ranges from 128 kbps to 2Mbps. This technology is developing due to the increasing use of wireless devices such as cellphones and laptops and capsules.
